Triple-Layer CloudTec® Cushioning

Three layers of On's signature hollow cushioning pods compress on landing and rebound through the stride, delivering a noticeably more responsive ride than earlier Cloudmonster generations.

On Cloudmonster 3 - Rock | Silver Speedboard Propulsion Plate

Speedboard Propulsion Plate

A full-length Speedboard embedded in the midsole stiffens at the right moment to return energy and drive a more powerful push-off, reducing fatigue over long distances.

On Cloudmonster 3 - Rock | Silver Enhanced Rocker for Forward Roll

Enhanced Rocker for Forward Roll

The Cloudmonster 3's updated rocker geometry guides the foot naturally through each gait cycle, making forward momentum feel effortless and reducing the load on the lower leg.

Product story

Built to Roll, Designed to Last the Distance

The Cloudmonster 3 in Rock | Silver carries a colorway that earns its name. The deep, stony grey of the base meshes with a cool silver overlay that reads differently under morning light than under midday sun, giving the shoe a restrained, purposeful look that suits both the track and the commute. It is the kind of color that does not distract from the run itself.

Under that knit upper, the Cloudmonster 3 is built around a triple-layer CloudTec® cushioning system, the most refined version of On's signature hollow pod technology. Each pod compresses on contact to absorb impact, then springs back to contribute to forward momentum. Helion superfoam in the midsole adds lasting comfort across long miles, and the Speedboard propulsion plate channels that energy into a clean, efficient push-off.

The enhanced rocker shape is the detail that ties the ride together. Rather than a flat platform that simply cushions, the Cloudmonster 3 actively guides the foot through its gait cycle, rolling smoothly from heel strike through toe-off. That geometry, combined with the compressed rubber outsole for traction on wet and dry pavement, makes this shoe as capable on a tempo run as it is on an easy recovery loop.

The Cloudmonster 3 suits runners who want maximum cushion without sacrificing the sense that the shoe is working with them. Heavier runners, those building back from injury, and anyone logging serious weekly mileage will find the triple-layer base a meaningful upgrade. The Rock | Silver colorway keeps the shoe versatile enough to wear off the road too, pairing cleanly with everyday clothing without announcing itself.

Finally a max-cushion shoe that still moves

I have been chasing a shoe that cushions long miles without making me feel like I am running on a mattress. The Cloudmonster 3 in Rock Silver is exactly that. The rocker pulls you through each step and the CloudTec pods give back more than I expected. I ran a 22-miler in these and my legs felt better than usual the next day.

Understated color, overachieving ride

I picked the Rock Silver partly because I wanted something that did not look like a neon billboard. It pairs well with everything and holds up in the wash of morning light. More importantly, the cushioning on these is serious. My knees have been happier since I switched to the Cloudmonster 3 for my longer weekend runs.

My physical therapist approved, and so do I

I was coming back from a partial meniscus repair and my PT wanted me in a maximum cushion shoe with a smooth transition. The Cloudmonster 3 checked both boxes. The triple-layer cushioning absorbs the road well and the rocker keeps me from heel striking aggressively. Six weeks in and my mileage is back up with no setbacks.

The cushion holds up when it needs to

At 235 pounds I have burned through plenty of shoes that felt great in the store and flat by week six. The Helion foam in the Cloudmonster 3 has stayed lively through 200 miles so far. The Rock Silver colorway also looks sharp, which is a bonus. This is my new daily trainer and I have already ordered a backup pair.

A very good shoe with one caveat

The Cloudmonster 3 is excellent for easy and moderate pace runs. The cushion is plush without being sloppy and the rocker rolls you forward in a way that feels natural after a few miles of adjustment. I knocked one star off because I found the fit slightly narrow through the toe box at first, though it softened up after a few runs. Worth trying a half size up if you have a wider foot.

5-day-a-week runner, San Francisco CA

Bought for shifts, run in them on weekends too

I started wearing the Cloudmonster 3 for 12-hour hospital shifts and quickly realized I was also reaching for them on my weekend runs. The cushioning handles concrete floors and asphalt equally well. The Rock Silver colorway is muted enough to work with scrubs and athletic gear without looking out of place in either setting.

Best cushion I have had at altitude

Training at high altitude is hard on the legs and I lean on cushioning more than most. The Cloudmonster 3 has the most forgiving landing of any On shoe I have owned while the Speedboard still gives me that pop through the push-off. The Rock Silver looks great in the mountains too, which matters more than I usually admit.

Carlos Mendez

Half marathon runner, Denver CO

Versatile enough for everything I throw at it

I use the Cloudmonster 3 for a mix of treadmill sessions, pavement runs, and walking commutes. The triple-layer CloudTec handles the variety without any hot spots or pressure points developing. The Rock Silver is exactly the kind of neutral color I can wear with most outfits without it looking like I just came from a track meet. Solid shoe all around.
