Product story

Built for More. Every Single Mile.

The Cloudmonster 2 in Black | Glacier is a statement before you take a single step. The deep matte black base is punctuated by an icy glacier tone that catches light on the move, giving this colorway a restrained, purposeful look that works on a pre-dawn recovery jog or a Saturday long run through the city. It is the kind of shoe you reach for without thinking, because it goes with almost everything and performs without compromise.

At the heart of this shoe is On's biggest-ever CloudTec configuration, a network of oversized hollow cushioning pods that compress on impact and snap back to propel you forward. Paired with the reworked dual-density Helion superfoam, the Cloudmonster 2 delivers a bounce and energy return that feels noticeably more lively than its predecessor. A foam insert in the forefoot manages impact at the front of the foot, rounding out a midsole stack that protects your joints on long efforts without ever feeling sluggish.

The nylon-blend Speedboard runs the length of the shoe and is shaped specifically for propulsion. Where many max-cushion shoes sacrifice responsiveness for padding, the Speedboard holds its form through each stride cycle, storing energy during the compression phase and releasing it at toe-off with a snappy, confident feel. That rocker geometry encourages a natural forward roll, so your body stays in motion rather than fighting the shoe.

The Cloudmonster 2 suits a wide range of runners: those logging high mileage who need genuine joint protection, those returning to running who want a forgiving landing, and everyday athletes who spend long hours on their feet and want a shoe that keeps up. If you have been looking for a road runner that sits at the top of the cushioning range without feeling like you are running on foam blocks, the Cloudmonster 2 in Black | Glacier is the one.

Finally a max-cushion shoe that actually moves

I have been skeptical of max-cushion shoes for years because they always feel like running on soft bread. The Cloudmonster 2 changed that for me. The Speedboard makes it feel alive at the toe-off, and after 20-mile long runs in these I am finishing fresher than I used to in my old trainers. The Black and Glacier colorway also looks sharp enough that I wore them to dinner after a Sunday run without feeling out of place.

Twelve-hour shifts and my feet still feel okay

I switched to the Cloudmonster 2 after a colleague recommended them for people who stand all day. The cushioning is genuinely remarkable for someone whose feet take a beating across a long shift. I also run three mornings a week, so I use them for both, and they hold up to both uses without any complaint. The glacier accent is a nice touch too, subtle but distinctive.

Got me back on the road after six months off

Coming back from a bad case of plantar fasciitis, I needed a shoe with serious cushioning in the forefoot. The foam insert in the toe area of the Cloudmonster 2 made a real difference during those first cautious miles. I am back to 30 miles a week now and have not had a setback. On Cloudmonster was the first shoe that felt truly safe to run in again.

My go-to for every easy day

I rotate through a few different shoes depending on the workout, but the Cloudmonster 2 has become my default for easy and recovery days. The bounce from the Helion foam is addictive in the best way, and the Black Glacier colorway is my favorite look in the lineup. Sizing was true to my usual On size.

Great protection, took a couple of runs to break in

At 230 pounds I put a lot of stress on my shoes, and most cushioned trainers feel compressed within a few hundred miles. The Cloudmonster 2 has held up much better than I expected. It took about 20 miles for the foam to loosen up and reach its best feel, so give it time if your first run feels a little stiff. Solid shoe overall.

More energy than I expected from a plush shoe

I trained for my first half-marathon in these and hit a personal best on race day wearing a different shoe, but the Cloudmonster 2 did the heavy lifting in every long training run. The combination of the CloudTec cushioning and the propulsion feel from the Speedboard kept my legs fresher than they had been in any other shoe at the same mileage. Really impressed.

Versatile enough for everything I put it through

I use the Cloudmonster 2 for my run commute three days a week and occasional treadmill sessions at the gym. They look clean enough that I do not feel out of place walking into the office, and they perform well enough that I trust them on longer weekend runs too. The Black and Glacier color specifically is the most versatile in the range, in my opinion.

The cushioning I need at 57, the speed I still want

As I have gotten older, cushioning has moved from a preference to a necessity, especially on the concrete in the city. The Cloudmonster 2 gives my knees and hips the protection they need without making me feel like I am running in platform shoes. The Speedboard keeps the ride honest and a little quick, which I appreciate. Fits slightly snug in the toe box for my wider foot, hence four stars, but the overall shoe is excellent.
