Product story

Built for the Distance, Designed with Intention

The Cloudmonster 2 in Moondust and Chalk did not arrive as a standard seasonal update. This colorway is a limited-edition release created in partnership with POST ARCHIVE FACTION, the Seoul-based design collective known for rethinking functional objects from first principles. The result is a shoe that carries a considered visual identity, with a muted, atmospheric palette that feels as deliberate as the engineering beneath it.

On's biggest-ever CloudTec pods sit at the core of the ride experience. Those hollow cushioning pods compress precisely on landing and rebound with immediacy, so you get genuine impact absorption without the dead, overbuilt feel that bogs down other max-cushion shoes. A foam insert in the forefoot adds another layer of protection right where foot strike forces concentrate most.

The Speedboard propulsion plate and reworked dual-density Helion superfoam work together to give each step forward momentum rather than just vertical bounce. The Helion foam is light and temperature-stable, meaning the energy return you feel on mile one holds through mile ten. This is a shoe built for long road sessions where cumulative fatigue is the real opponent.

The Cloudmonster 2 Moondust and Chalk suits women runners who want maximum cushioning without sacrificing the sense of connection to the road. Whether you are logging weekend long runs, building back from injury, or simply spending hours on your feet, the light woven upper and secure fit keep things comfortable across the full duration. The PAF collaboration makes it as wearable off the route as on it.

Runner notes

Why this pair keeps getting picked.

Natural feedback shaped around the fit, colorway, and ride profile of this exact product.

Best long run shoe I have owned

I have been putting in 18-plus mile long runs in the Cloudmonster 2 Moondust and Chalk for the past two months and my legs feel noticeably less wrecked the next day. The cushioning is substantial without making me feel like I am running on a mattress. The PAF color palette is also a genuine departure from the usual bold running colorways, which I appreciate.

Finally a shoe that holds up through a 12-hour shift

I wear these for double shifts and the cushioning stays consistent from start to finish in a way that most running shoes do not. The woven upper breathes well even in a warm hospital environment. The Moondust and Chalk color is subtle enough to pair with scrubs without looking like I am about to race.

The cushioning gave me confidence to build back

Coming back from a partial meniscus repair, I needed something that would absorb impact without making my knee work overtime. The Cloudmonster 2 delivered on that completely. I started with three-mile easy runs and have worked up to eight miles with no flare-ups. The foam insert in the forefoot in particular makes a difference on concrete.

Excellent shoe, worth knowing the sizing

I sized up half a size based on reviews and it was the right call since the toe box is snug at true-to-size for my slightly wider foot. Once fitted correctly, the ride is exceptional for both my morning runs and afternoon errands. The collaboration design is subtle and clean, which fits my preference for shoes that do not shout.

Loretta Kaminski

Recreational runner and commuter, Portland

Finally feels supported, not compressed

At 185 pounds I have had bad experiences with max-cushion shoes that compress out within a few weeks. The Cloudmonster 2 has stayed consistently springy through three months of daily use. The CloudTec pods seem to distribute my weight more evenly than a flat foam bed does, and I genuinely notice the difference on longer efforts.

Turns long pace days into something I look forward to

I pace a local running club twice a week and I am on my feet for two-plus hours at a stretch. The Speedboard plate gives just enough forward propulsion that keeping a consistent tempo does not feel like work. The Moondust and Chalk colorway holds up clean after multiple wet-road runs through Seattle winters, which surprised me.

Megan Ashworth

Half-marathon pacer, Seattle

More versatile than expected

I bought these primarily for treadmill sessions and they have become my go-to shoe for everything from the gym to grocery runs. The cushioning on a treadmill is almost comically good. The PAF design gets comments every time I wear them, and the colorway is versatile enough that I wear them casually with jeans without it looking out of place.

Great for road days, holds its cushioning late in the run

For my ultramarathon training this primarily means road and packed gravel long efforts, and the Cloudmonster 2 handles those exceptionally well. I noticed that the Helion foam does not get noticeably deader as the miles accumulate in a single session, which is meaningful when you are at mile 20 of a training run. I would not take it on technical trails, but for paved and groomed surfaces it is the best-cushioned shoe I have run in.
