PAF Woven Upper with Ventilation Detail

The light woven upper was developed in collaboration with POST ARCHIVE FACTION and incorporates a delicate surface ventilation pattern that keeps airflow moving without sacrificing structure.

Speedboard and Dual-Density Helion Foam

A Speedboard propulsion plate and reworked dual-density Helion superfoam work together to convert cushioning into forward momentum, so the shoe adds energy instead of absorbing it.

Product story

Built With POST ARCHIVE FACTION. Made for the Long Run.

The Cloudmonster 2 in Thorn and Brown did not start in a running lab. It started with a conversation between On and POST ARCHIVE FACTION, the Seoul-based design studio known for precise, architecturally influenced work. The result is a shoe that wears its collaboration honestly: the earthy thorn and brown tones feel chosen, not applied, and the light woven upper carries a delicate ventilation pattern that reflects PAF's interest in functional surface detail.

Under the distinctive exterior, the Cloudmonster 2 delivers On's most ambitious cushioning platform to date. The CloudTec pods are the largest On has ever produced, compressing on landing to absorb impact and rebounding to return energy through the stride. A Speedboard propulsion plate runs through the midsole to sharpen toe-off, and a foam insert in the forefoot adds a secondary layer of impact protection that makes long asphalt miles noticeably more forgiving.

This is a shoe for runners who want maximum cushioning without sacrificing forward momentum. The enhanced rocker geometry encourages a natural roll through the gait cycle, which reduces the effort of each transition from heel to toe. Whether the goal is a Sunday long run, a recovery day on city streets, or simply hours on your feet, the Cloudmonster 2 provides the kind of underfoot comfort that keeps you going past the point where another shoe would make you stop.

The Thorn and Brown colorway is available in both mens and womens fits, and it suits runners who appreciate a shoe that holds its own as an object before it ever hits the road. The muted, warm palette transitions naturally from running kit to everyday dress, making this one of the few maximum-cushion shoes that works as hard off the road as on it. As a limited-edition release, the PAF Cloudmonster 2 is not a shoe that will be restocked indefinitely.

Runner notes

Why this pair keeps getting picked.

Natural feedback shaped around the fit, colorway, and ride profile of this exact product.

Best long-run shoe I have owned in years

I put this on for an 18-miler and my legs felt fresher at mile 16 than they usually do at mile 12 in my old trainers. The CloudTec cushioning genuinely absorbs more than anything I have run in before. The Thorn and Brown colorway is understated and goes with everything I already run in.

Twelve-hour shifts no longer destroy my feet

I started wearing the Cloudmonster 2 for hospital shifts after my running friend recommended it for all-day standing. The cushioning on these is extraordinary. My feet used to ache by hour six, and now I get through a full shift without that grinding soreness. The brown colorway is neutral enough that it does not look out of place at work.

Finally a cushioned shoe that does not bottom out

At 230 pounds I have had a lot of cushioned shoes that feel great in the store and collapse after a few weeks. The Cloudmonster 2 has held up well through a full training block and still feels as plush as the first run. The Speedboard plate seems to be what keeps it from feeling dead. I am genuinely impressed.

Eased me back into running without setbacks

I came back to running after a stress fracture and my physical therapist suggested maximum-cushion shoes for the first few months. The Cloudmonster 2 was the right call. The foam insert in the forefoot made a real difference on the impact side, and I never felt the harsh landing I was nervous about. Six weeks in and no pain.

Exceptional shoe with one minor note on weight

The ride on the Cloudmonster 2 is as good as anything On makes. The PAF collaboration makes it feel special in a way that most running shoes do not. My one honest note is that it is a heavier shoe, which you feel on faster efforts. For easy days and long runs it is perfect, and the cushioning is worth every gram.

Cushioning that actually returns energy

I was skeptical that a shoe with this much foam could still feel fast, but the Speedboard changes everything. My half-marathon training paces have stayed consistent while my legs feel considerably less beaten up by the end of the week. The brown colorway looks beautiful in person, much richer than the photos suggest.

Wears well from the gym to the street

I run to work three days a week and do not always have time to change shoes before errands. The Cloudmonster 2 in Thorn and Brown looks presentable enough that I can go from a six-mile commute run straight to a coffee shop or a meeting without feeling underdressed. The PAF design is genuinely nice and the cushioning survives both pavement miles and standing around.

A serious tool for serious mileage

I use these for back-to-back long training days where I need maximum leg protection. The dual-density Helion foam holds up across consecutive efforts in a way that cheaper cushioned shoes do not. My one observation is that the fit is slightly narrow at the toe box compared to some trail-oriented shoes I run in, so runners with wide feet should try them on first. For everyone else, this is a top-tier training shoe.
